steverie I have to admit it, I'm not as cool as I used to think I was. The only reason I know about Treepeople is because of Doug Martsch's more popular band Built to Spill. Allow me to relinquish my hipster card, I am clearly no longer worthy of keeping it. On a serious note though, this debut full-length shows great promise for what was to come later in Mr. Martsch's career. The songs are concise and brimming with youthful energy; they were clearly channelling some of the most significant experimental hardcore acts of the 1980's (Husker Du, Sonic Youth, and especially Dinosaur Jr.) and fusing elements from those acts with their talent for writing intricate yet catchy songs. When all is said and done I think the songwriting is what impresses me the most about this album. They were so young, but they proved that they were a force to be reckoned with.

swtchbckr SO good to be hearing this again. Loved it at the time, Bozeman 1992 a friend gave me this and it was one of my favourites, lost to history on a cassette tape somewhere dusty, in a box, on a shelf, probably in my basement now, Chch NZ. And tonight I thought to look for it here

about

Treepeople were a band of their time, the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and their place, Boise, ID and Seattle, WA, who created punk music that lives on into a future they never imagined. The members of Treepeople, Scott Schmaljohn, Pat Brown, Wayne Flower and Doug Martsch went on to form prominent ‘90s Northwest combos Built to Spill, Stuntman, Violent Green, The Halo Benders, and Hive.

The Treepeople sound is a jagged buzz crossing boundaries between the punk, hardcore, garage and grunge artists interwoven in the NW music scene. This is a Northwest classic, remastered and presented not only as an important document, also a collection of fab, adrenaline inducing songs.

The Treepeople album, Guilt, Regret and Embarrassment, originally released on Toxic Shock Records, has been given the DELUXE EDITION treatment here, expanded to a double album with the inclusion of songs originally appearing on singles and compilations from their earliest years. The original album was produced by Steve Fisk; additional material produced by Fisk, Jack Endino and other NW stalwarts. Guilt, Regret and Embarrassment DELUXE EDITION has been remastered by John Golden Mastering.
